One of the things I love hearing, from Ay & from my readers is, “when they make this book into a movie…”
Though, the check would be bigger for movie rights, I’d probably squeal louder if someone wanted to make it into a manga series. I’m that kind of geek.
Which doesn’t matter, because it’s not like I’ve sold the book, or found representation for it, or anything like that. BUT.
I still like hearing “When they make this into a movie…”
Except this morning I did something bad. Horrible. Evil. Demoralizing. I started picturing how my book would look if it was made into a movie. And I cringed at how cheesy it would be if it were translated directly to the big screen. But the thing is, I don’t think it’s a cheesy story. Not completely. But now I have these awful movie-like scenes in my head instead of the original characters, and it’s going to blow some of my self-confidence out of the water until I can lose the images.
But I did cast my female leads. Totally different story for a different day.
So, to finish the thought:
“If they make this into a movie, I really hope the director and screenplay writer have the insight to make it different from the book.”
Can you picture your book as a movie?
Unfortunately, I can picture my book too much as a movie. As in, some things would work great visually but are really hard to describe. Like that eyeshine thing that dogs’s eyes do. I don’t like how I described that in the novel, but I don’t know how else to describe it. And all the eye contact/body language interplay that happens in character-driven work just *occurs* on screen, but in a book you have to be careful not to over-say “eyes”.
Chapter 7 was awesome, by the way, and cleared up quite a bit. (Moving on to the rest of it now–I had an eventful weekend.) Can’t wait for the movie! 🙂
Yeah I can see how mine would go into a movie, think a tv show would be better though, but that’s just me. As I watch so many friggin movies, I can picture everything, sad but true. Blog hopped you way too!
Maybe I should cast my female lead for the movie version. Hmmmm.
