Just like the title says, I’m looking for a beta reader or two for my adult contemporary romance.
I have the absolute best CP’s and beta readers. But there’s always room to expand the list and meet new people. I have this story. It’s not a new type of story for me, but it is the longest I’ve ever written of this type. You know, boy meets girl, boy and girl experience instant attraction, boy and girl realize things will never work between them, that kind of thing.
If anyone is interested in trading three chapters, I’d be happy to read whatever you’ve got, except historical (I think it takes a brilliant mind to write historical fiction, and I enjoy reading it, but I’m not the person to give you feedback on it). YA, adult, romance, contemporary, literary, fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, whatever. If it looks like we’ll click, we can trade full manuscripts. I’m not looking for in-line notes on this one, (like I said, amazing CP’s. I wouldn’t complain of course, but it’s not needed, especially with my time frame) really just a beta read and overall thoughts on pacing, plot, character development, stuff like that. I’m hoping you can turn it around quickly (a few weeks) and I’ll do the same in return.
Because it’s a romance novel, and because I don’t have a problem with steamy scenes, there are some explicit bits.
If you’re willing to give it a try, leave me a comment. I know this probably won’t bring me any comments, but I’m stretching far and wide on this one, and trying every outlet I can find and think of.
Oh, and you probably want to know what it’s about. Here’s my current, work in progress, blurb:
A no-strings attached fling with her roommate teaches Riley she’s a one-man woman, and leaves her looking for a less-awkward living situation. Intelligent, sexy Zane seems like the perfect answer to both. Sparks fly in the new apartment until she realizes he’s not looking for anything long-term. Riley tells herself it’s no big deal; they still have a great friendship.
Besides, from the way her co-worker, Brent, is hitting on her, he must be interested in commitment. But a bad first date drives her to seek refuge in several stiff drinks. When she wakes up naked in Brent’s bed, she can’t remember saying yes to anything before she passed out. Now she’s second-guessing everything she believes about relationships and happily ever after. On top of that, because she’s higher on the corporate food-chain, Brent’s blackmailing her into silence and submission with the company’s ‘no dating subordinates’ policy.
She turns to Zane for support as she weighs her mental well-being against her career. But they can’t ignore the growing attraction that blurs the line between friends and lovers, and it leaves them at odds. With friendship, sanity, and her financial future on the line, Riley will have to decide where her priorities lie, or lose all three.
Any takers? *bats eyelashes*
Pick me! Pick me!
I’d like to! I’m trying to expand my beta reading capabilities, and frankly, your premise sounds like the perfect summer read.
@Kate – Of course ^_^
@Amanda – great to meet you 😀 I can’t get to your blogger profile or see your contact info, so you’ll need to email me. My email is loralie(dot)hall@gmail(dot)com. Let me know what you’d like me to read in return in your message.
OpenID is being pissy. I have a WordPress blog instead of blogger. I’ll send you an email in a bit!
This sounds like it’s right up my alley. I’d love to read for you!
I’ve just started my first contemporary romance but I have a ways to go before it will be ready to read.
If you want to swap again, I have CVE3 ready for betas… and even if it’s different from the other work I read from you, it’s still fiction and I’m still plot/character oriented, if it’s what you’re looking for! 😉
You know where to find me! 😀
